About Me

More about Richard Otter
I'm Richard Otter
from the UK (or England if you prefer).
My interest in IF dates back to the adventure games of the 80s. I
must have played all the old ZX Spectrum classics such as
"Sherlock", "Hobbit", "Lords of Time", "Snowball" and "Subsunk". I
even had a go at writing my own stuff in those days using the dear
old Quill by Gilsoft.
I stumbled onto ADRIFT in 2004 and so started my life in the modern
world of IF. As I'm no programmer I have stayed with ADRIFT up until
recently and have a few games of varying quality under my belt.
My games have been been placed fairly highly in the regular
ADRIFT competitions. My most successful game so far has been
Unauthorized Termination, which broke into the top ten in the 12th
Annual Interactive Fiction Competition. This game was also a
Finalist in the XYZZY Awards 2006, nominated in the "Best Setting"
category.
Escape to New York was placed 11th in the 11th Annual Interactive
Fiction Competition. It came joint 3rd in InsideADRIFT End of Year
Comp 2005 and was also the joint winner in the "Most unusual ADRIFT
setting/plot of the year" award at the InsideADRIFT Awards 2005.
And just recently Vague was placed 2nd in the Spring Thing 2009.
Out of curiosity really, in 2008 I ported Pathway to Destruction to
Z-Code 8 using Inform 7. This was quite a battle as my programming
skills are a little on the poor side to say the least. It is now
looking like I will be moving over to Inform for new projects, but
have a few ADRIFT games in production.
